Jinbo, the Korean Music Award winner reinterprets hit songs by Girls’ Generation, 2NE1, Taeyang & more for his latest project

New York, NY/Seoul, Korea – July 31, 2012 – Jinbo is again pushing international musical boundaries. The prolific singer/songwriter/producer is gearing up to tackle his next project, the genre-breaking KRNB. The free-for-download album promises to deliver a unique fusion of classic and contemporary R&B with Korean pop music.

The product of late-night conversations during Jinbo’s latest trip to Flushing, NY, KRNB (pronounced as “Korean-B,” and occasionally euphemized as “KoReaNB”) is a culmination of Jinbo’s favorite K-Pop records from past and present. It’s a collection of altered and renovated hits, smoothly tucked into a cohesive project full of nostalgia, and innovation—all of which pay homage to the greats (Seo Taiji; Kim Gun-mo; Deux) and acknowledge the current heavyweights (Girls’ Generation; Taeyang; 2NE1).

“The type of chords that are used in recent K-Pop just doesn’t speak to me,” says Jinbo. “I just thought there’s another way to present these great records.”

Much like how Usher and Chris Brown have garnished their vocals over European dance music, Jinbo does the same in reverse. Rather than simply sing the same lyrics over slow jams, or sing R&B lyrics over a K-Pop beat, Jinbo takes the unbeaten path, re-writing the K-Pop lyrics and letting them simmer over his own stripped down, vintage influenced production.

These aren’t rewrites of verses or two—he re-composed, re-produced, and re-coordinated the whole song into a groovy, throwback gem that’ll make any fans everywhere jump for joy. Examples include “Damn,” a take on Girls’ Generation’s “Gee,” that includes erotic dialogue and stripped-down production, and “I Need You Girl,” a reinterpretation of Taeyang’s “I Need a Girl,” a feel-good, early ‘90s R&B jam that invokes a sense of nostalgia. “Love Game,” an early ‘80s R&B, pop, and New Wave-influenced reinterpretation of BoA’s 2010 hit “GAME,” has been described by Jinbo as “one of the best songs I’ve ever created.”

Having produced, mixed and written all of the songs on the project, KRNB is an innovative musical portrait that captures the true essence of R&B music from its golden era, intertwined with the uniquely accessible traits of K-Pop.

KRNB will be available for free download on August 29, 2012.
