SISTAR’s Hyorin and T-ara’s Jiyeon, both of whom are appearing in KBS2‘s drama “Dream High 2,” have attracted some attention after having stated that they, “would like to see special laws for the protection of minors in the entertainment industry” and “We’re hoping to protect underage performers…”
At a 2:00PM press conference on January 17th at Seoul’s Nonhyun Imperial Palace Hotel, Jiyeon said, “We’d like to see laws put in place for the protection of underage entertainers in the true sense of the word.”
A “Minor Protection Law“, is a law that prohibits underage entertainers from taking part in more than 30 hours a week of performances, filming and related work activities. In addition, those who are not enrolled in school are forbidden from even becoming a celebrity.
The law also prohibits activities taking place after 10:00PM, and requires 20 hours a week to be dedicated to classes and schooling.
In the drama “Dream High 2,” minor protection laws are applied to the idol group HUSH & EDEN, who transfer to Kirin Arts High School. The same laws also apply to them while they are in Japan.
T-ara’s Jiyeon, who was born in 1993 and is currently a high school student, stated, “I want to go to school with my friends, but I also want to have some alone time. I like performing, but I think everyone needs a break sometimes.”
SISTAR’s Hyorin agreed, adding, “Being a celebrity makes it hard to maintain a normal sleep schedule and lead a healthy lifestyle. Right now my schedule is so full that I feel like I have less time to practice singing than I did as a trainee.”
However, 2AM’s Jinwoon shared a different opinion. “If those laws came into effect, it would definitely limit what artists could do,” he said, and continued, “I learned a lot of things as I went. I made my debut when I was underage, but I feel like if you really want to, you can attend school and be a celebrity at the same time.”
In the drama, Jinwoon plays a mischievous student who dreams of becoming an idol, while Hyorin plays a lead vocalist named Nana. Jiyeon will also play the role of an idol.
“Dream High 2″ is the story of students who want to make it big in the entertainment industry. Along with Hyorin, Jiyeon and Jinwoon, the series also stars Kang Sora, Park Jiyeon, JB, Park Seo Jun, Yoo Soyoung, Kim Jisoo, Ailee, Jr, Jung Yeon Joo, Park Jin Young, Kim Jung Tae, Kwon Hae Hyo, Choi Yeo Jin, Kahi, and many more. The first episode is set to air on January 30th.
With the new law carrying so much potential to change the lives of future idols, do you think it should be imposed?

how nice of them to think for the kids
“30 hours a week of performances, filming and related work activities.” YES!
that’s soooo tiring =__=
That’s so nice of them to think about the minors. When I hear ‘minor’ and ‘kpop’ together, the person/group that comes to my mind inmmediately is Tia in Chocolat. She’s 15, 15. When I am 15, I’m in school. Hanging out with my friends.
