B.A.P (Best, Absolute, Perfect) is a well-suited team name for the up and coming rookie group that recently sat down with Asia Today for an interview.

B.AP has garnered much interest and recently mesmerized an audience of 3000 people with a perfect stage at their first debut showcase. Additionally, a crowd of 1000 fans attended their first fan signing, thus really  hammering home the group’s hot popularity. Anyone can see their strong charisma overflowing on stage as B.A.P always provides a fancy performance with explosive energy. However, despite all the laughing and mischief during the interview, one can feel the innocent young boys’ passion for music as artists. Check out the interview below!

- What kind of album is your debut album ‘WARRIOR’?

“From hip-hop to rock, it contains music from a variety of genres. The title song ‘WARRIOR’ has a strong performance element to it as the content of its lyrics include a criticism of the irrational aspects of society. ‘Unbreakable’ tells the story of our process from our trainee days to our debut. ‘Burn It Up’ is a collaboration with our sunbae of the same agency, SECRET‘s Song Ji Eun.”

- What is the meaning behind all the members bleaching their hair blonde?

“In order to become more memorable to the public and spread our name to more people, we all bleached our hair. We all willingly agreed to do so without any hesitation. Occasionally, the members’ names and photos will be changed around in articles, and there are times when our fans get confused and mistakenly hand over the wrong gifts. There are lots of interesting episodes.”

- Your aliens conquering the Earth concept is also quite unique.

“It was the idea of the PD and writers of our SBS MTV reality program ‘Ta-Dah! It’s B.A.P‘. At first, we were rather embarrassed by it, but we tried to adapt to it. We watched the program, and it’s pretty interesting and fun.”

- When it comes to being a rookie group, you’ve received an unprecedented amount of support.

“We are always thankful, and the best way for us to show it is to show an even better image. Although an audience of 3000 people was present for our debut showcase, at the time we totally freaked out for a passing instant. Now that we think about it, it all seems like a dream, and the future has the same sort of feeling.”

- There are lots of stories saying you are the best rookies of the generation. Do you feel popular?

“We’re flattered. We’d never thought we would receive so much love, and we don’t know how to react. We think this means we have to work harder. We had our first fan signing on February 19th, and we were surprised because more people than expected came; it was also fun.”

- Are there any groups you think of as rivals, or sunbae singers you think of as role models?

“Because we would like to focus on our own music and show our stages, we don’t really pay attention to such things like choosing someone as our rival. Also rather than deciding on a role model, we put in effort to show our own style. However, we are always monitoring our sunbae’s stages. There are many points to learn from them.”

- Apart from Song Ji Eun, are there any singers you want to work with?

“We want to work with someone like Song Ji Eun sunbae, someone with a distinctive tone and appealing, deep vocal. We also want to see units within our team. We have the urge to produce vocal duos and solo projects. So far, we don’t have any concrete plans, but we want to show a variety of images.”

- Were other members jealous that Bang Yong Guk and Zelo got to start activities before?

“At first, there were members who were slightly jealous and had the mind to want to hurry up and be on stage. However, when seeing our leader and maknae working hard for our team, we were thankful and felt sorry for feeling that way.”

- How is your life at home?

“Zelo is in charge of washing the clothes, and his attachment to clothes is quite impressive. To avoid staining his clothes at all costs, he divides up the colors and does the laundry. Jong Up is mainly in charge of washing the dishes. He plays music by himself at dawn, and amongst the members, there have been reports of his appearance from behind as he washes the dishes to the rhythm of the music, making us laugh.”

- The relations among the members seem to be very close.

“Our relations are good to the degree that we have conversations in our sleep. It sounds like a lie, but we really do talk to each other in our sleep. Members who were awake have reported it and were scared.”

- Do you have goals and plans for this year’s activities?

“Every year Malaysia hosts the MTV ‘World Stage‘, and it is our dream to represent Korea on that stage. We want to broaden our spectrum by building experience through many overseas performances. Soon, our album is scheduled to circulate all over the world. Our goal is to win the rookie award at the end of the year.”
