DSK 2013 to start global auditions in May, looking for international K-pop group

Want to be the next K-pop star? Check out this latest opportunity from Dream Stage Korea (DSK), and maybe we will be writing about you someday.

On March 22nd, DSK announced that it is looking to create the world’s first international K-pop idol group. Produced by Avance Entertainment and sponsored by Cube Entertainment, DSK 2013 is planning to start an auditions tour in May 2012 in which they will visit 10 cities around the world to find contestants for their audition program.

In order to select those cities, DSK is asking for the participation of K-pop fans all over the world. Interested cities are required to make a Facebook group of over 50 people from their city. In addition to registration, a points system has been established, where cities can gain more points by voting in the polls on Avance Entertainment’s Facebook page and by posting videos and photos through YouTube or Facebook. More activities are expected to be announced as the selection process heats up.

Once they have chosen the potential stars from each of the 10 cities, those individuals will advance to the finals, scheduled for August 2012 in Vancouver, Canada, home base for Avance Entertainment. A minimum of 2 groups (1 female and 1 male) will be formed at the finals, and those groups will receive training from PDI-EPAA, the world’s first K-pop training academy established outside of Korea. Only one group will be chosen to debut in Korea in 2013.

So far, it has been announced that the judging panel at the Vancouver finals will include former SeeYa member Kim Yeon Ji and CEO of Modern K Music Academy and Rainbow Bridge Artist Agency and Director of Talent Development at Cube Entertainment, Kim Hyung Kyu.

According to Mr. Suk Min Hong, president of Avance Entertainment, “The ultimate goal the DSK project is to re-export the international K-pop idol groups to their respective home markets after their debut and development in Korea to foster a proliferation of K-pop as a legitimate mainstream musical genre worldwide.

Avance Entertainment is placing extra emphasis on the fact that they are looking to create an international group. They are encouraging all ethnicities and nationalities to participate. After all, in 2011, Avance Entertainment debuted the first multiracial K-pop male group ESQ, short for ESQUIRE, that was comprised of five members from Canada of Korean, Chinese and Caucasian descent.
